Earthzine, an IEEE online scientific publication, is soliciting articles of 800 to 3,000 words for its third 2016 quarterly theme.
Recent years have seen an increased emphasis on promoting diversity in careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Earthzine has selected Women in STEM as its third quarterly theme to acknowledge the critical roles women play in the advancement of Earth observation. We seek articles featuring women and their career paths and mentoring programs to foster girls and young women in pursuing STEM-related careers, associated with all aspects of Earth information.
Specific topics of interest for this theme include:

• Biographical stories of women who have succeeded in STEM careers
• Examples of mentoring programs for girls and young women seeking STEM careers
• Cutting-edge work women around the globe are conducting in STEM fields.

We invite you to submit an article and become part of a growing, professionally diverse community and global readership network. Submissions must be in English. Submit inquiries and articles to Science Editor Kelley Christensen at kjhchristensen@earthzine.org.
We seek contributions from relevant disciplines and all regions of the globe. These can address current and emerging research issues, approaches, techniques or applications; community, state, and/or international initiatives; and other topics related to regional and global science, impacts, adaptation and policy. Submissions should include two to three visuals relevant to the content. Visuals may be graphs, charts, photographs or other appropriate images, with caption and credit information included.
Important dates: Submissions for the Women in STEM Theme will be accepted until Sept. 9, 2016.
Publication: All accepted contributions will undergo review by subject-matter experts, be published online at Earthzine.org, and be freely accessible to the public. Earthzine does not charge authors for publishing.
