The first Austrian GEO/GEOSS workshop took place on 25 November 2010 in Vienna. It was organized by the Austrian GEO Secretariat hosted by the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) to inform about and promote the GEOSS process.

During the workshop, presentations were made in three topical areas: (i) GEO and GEOSS, (ii) GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) and INSPIRE (Directive 2007/2/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 March 2007 establishing an Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community), and (iii) GEOSS-relevant work and relevant infrastructures.

In total, 63 persons participated in the workshop, including representatives from universities, research organizations, private companies, Austrian Ministries, government agencies, the German GEO Principal, a co-chair of the GEO User Interface Committee, and one representative from the European Commission, from the GEO Secretariat in Geneva and from the European Space Agency.
