European Commission to Host July Workshop on Socio-Economic Benefits of GEO-GEOSS
A workshop on the socio-economic benefits of GEO-GEOSS is planned for July 11-13 at the Joint Research Center in Ispra, Italy. The purpose of the workshop is to identify a program of activities to undertake during 2011-14 to support the GEO 10-year implementation plan and an assessment of benefits that can be achieved.
NASA’s Glory will be in improving climate models
Glory, a new edition to the A-Train constellation of environmental monitoring satellites, is due to go into space in late February. A monitor and sensor aboard will help scientists better understand the dynamics of global warming, and sort out changes in the sun’s energy from natural and human influences.

NOAA – David Johnson Award for Outstanding Innovative Use of Earth Observation Satellite Data
The NOAA David Johnson Award to honor of the first administrator of what was to become the NOAA National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) is requesting nominations. This award is given to young professionals who have developed an innovative application of Earth observation satellite data (alone or in combination with non-satellite data) that is, or could be, used for operational purposes to assess and/or predict atmospheric, oceanic, or terrestrial conditions.
